Day 1 

Ahmedabad – Sasan Gir (400Kms/8 Hours)

Arrival in Ahmedabad – a World Heritage City. Proceed towards Gir - the only abode of the Asiatic Lions in the world. The Gir National Park, sprawling over 1412 sq km of land, comprises deciduous forests interspersed with rocky terrains of evergreen trees, grasses, shrubs and herbs. It is one of the few places in the world, where wild lions can be seen in their natural habitat. Besides, it has a major concentration of leopards, sambar deer, spotted deers, nilgais, wild boars and Indian gazelles. Other mammals that thrive in Gir are striped hyena, jackal, rusty-spotted cat, langur, porcupine and black-naped hare. Chousingha, the world's only four-horned antelope, is also spotted here. The park has a large population of marsh crocodile as well.

Day 2 

Sasan Gir – Junagadh (76 Kms/ 2 Hrs.)

Today morning, Go for Gir Lion Safari (as per availability). Check out and proceeds towards Junagadh (80Kms/ 2 Hours) – city having the one of the oldest forts in Gujarat. Visit
Mahabbat Khan Maqbara: Mohabat Maqbara is historic place of attraction in Gujarat and is mainly known for its splendid domes, towering minarets and arches. The construction of this monument had begun in the year of 1878AD under the supervision of Mahabat Khanji which was completed by his descendant Bahadur Khanji in the year of 1892 AD. Every year tourists from India and around the world come here to see this outstanding specimen of architectural craftsmanship of nineteenth century India which forms the major center piece of attraction in the state. The architecture of this monument represents the perfect fusion of Indo-European-Islamic styles whose appeal is still intact before the visitors all over the world. Each and every corner of this monument bears the testimony of the aristocratic taste and lifestyles of the Junagadh rulers. This historic monument comprises of two complexes and its portals had been ornamented with silver which is worth to watch. This monument comprises of overall four minarets with intricately designed spiral staircases. Each minaret comprises of large doors of silver along with exquisite stone carvings. Therafter visit 
Damodar Kund: It is actually a revered bathing place in Gujarat where visitors around the world dip their bodies to refresh their mind and body. The chief source of attraction of this holy pond is the prevalence of calm and soothing atmosphere in the surrounding region. Close to this holy water body, is situated the temple of Damodarji and also the holy water body of Revati Kund. This holy water body is the spot where ashes and bones of the cremated dead bodies are immersed with a firm belief that the soul of the deceased shall attain moksha or free from the cycle of life and death. During festive seasons, local people of Junagadh come to this Kund for offering prayer for their loved ones. This Kund serves used to be the bathing spot Narsinh Mehta who was an ardent devotee of Krishna and also a famous poet of Gujarat during the period of 15th century. Near this lake stands a temple dedicated to Narsinh Mehta for commemorating his devotion and poetic works. Then visit 
Bhavnath Temple: Bhavnath Mahadev is a temple at the base of Girnar Hills, dedicated to Lord Shiva. This place is a gateway to reach the other temples on the Girnar. Pilgrims ascend to the peaks of Girnar Hills on foot from here. The other notable places around here are Damodar Kund, Mrugi Kund, Sudarshan Lake and the four peaks of Girnar Hills.‘Lili Parikrama’ - the five-day pilgrimage consisting of a 36 km trek on foot, encircling the Girnar Hills, also begins here every year. The ‘Lili Parikrama’ begins after hoisting a flag on the Bhavnath temple. Also, a five-day fair is organized on the occasion of ‘Maha Shivratri’ every year, in which sages and pilgrims from across India take part. Devotees believe that Lord Shiva himself comes to this fair, every year. The fair begins with procession of the ‘Naga Bawas’ riding the elephants and horses, chanting religious slogans and blowing the conch shells, displaying dance and martial arts. They bathe in the Mrigi Kund before joining the ‘Maha Shivratri’ procession. Overnight at Junagadh.

Day 3 

Girnar (Junagadh)

Today morning, after breakfast, visit Girnar hill: Girnar, also known as Girinagar ('city-on-the-hill') or Revatak Parvata, is a group of mountains in the Junagadh District of Gujarat, India. The Girnar mountain ranges are considered to be sacred. It is an important pilgrimage site for Hindus and Jains , who gather here during the Girnar Parikrama festival. Girnar is one of the six major 'tirthas' attributed to the 'panchkalyanakas' of various ' tirthankaras'. Mount. Girnar is older than the Himalayas and the Jain temples upon it are amongst the most ancient in the country; it is the Nirvan bhumi of 22nd Tirthankara Lord Neminatha. It is 3666 feet high, and is one of the most remarkable mountains in India. From the city of Junagadh, which is at an altitude of barely 351 feet only the top of Mount Girnar can be seen, as it has in front of it lower hills, of which Jogniya, or Laso Pawadi, 2527 feet; Lakhshman Tekri, Bensla, 2290 feet high; and Datar, 2779 feet high, are the principals. There are around 10,000 steps to reach the highest peak and takes around 4-5 hours for a normal individual to climb. Overnight at Junagadh.

Gir National Park 
"The land of Asiatic Lions"

Gir National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary is the only remaining home for the Asiatic Lions. Located in Talala Gir in Gujarat, the Sanctuary is a part of Kathiawar- Gir dry deciduous forests ecoregion. Gir National Park is closed from 16 June to 15 October every year and the best time for wildlife spotting is April and May.

Gir provides you with the unique experience of visiting a place which almost singularly plays a crucial and defining role in the preservation and sustaining of a certain species. The preservation of these lions was initiated by the Nawab of Junagadh when these were just about to enter the phase of extinction due to hunting.

The official count said that there were 411 lions in 2010. Also, there are roughly different 2375 species of fauna here with 38 species of mammals, over 300 species of birds, 37 species of reptiles and over 2000 species of insects. Other important wildlife forms found here are leopard, chausingha, spotted deer, hyena, sambar deer and chinkara.

Attractions in Gir National Park 

Apart from the famous Gir jungle trail at the national park, Gir has many other attractions to offer to tourists. The Kamleshwar dam, which is the largest dam in Gir, is one such attraction, and it is often referred to as the ‘lifeline of Gir’. It is built over the Hiran river. The beautiful Tulsi Shyam temple located within the national park is also a must-visit. The crocodile breeding farm, located near the Sasan Gir reserve, is also a popular tourist destination.

Water Reserve 

The Gir region has seven major rivers, and 4 reservoirs at 4 dams - one each on the Hiran, Machhundri, Raval and Shingoda rivers. The biggest reservoir is the Kamleshwar Dam, which is called as the lifeline of Gir. Droughts and water scarcity are a major challenge in the region, especially during peak summers.

Biodiversity of Gir 

The dry deciduous forests of Gir are believed to house over 500 species of flora, with teak trees being the most populous. Other prominent species include jamun, babul and the flame of the forest. Casuarinas and Prosopis were planted along the coastal borders of Gir for under the afforestation program. 

Gir is synonyms to the royal Asiatic lions that draws in the wildlife enthusiasts from all around the globe. The national park is the last abode of the endangered species of Asiatic lions that are the pride of India.

With the population of about 500 lions and 400 leopards in its premises, Gir is one of the biggest habitats of the wild cats and also a haven for the wildlife lovers. Apart from the leopards and lions, the national park also houses the various variety of species such as Deer, Sambhar, Cheetal, antelopes, blue bull, jackal, hyena and hare among the other species of fauna.

Devalia Safari Park 

The Devalia Safari Park is also known as the Gir Interpretation Zone and was established to reduce the excess of tourists at the Gir National Park. It is an eco-tourism zone, known as ‘Gir in a nutshell’, which houses all the wildlife and habitats of Gir within its boundaries.

Prominent species that can be spotted here include - Blue Bull, Asiatic Lion, Leopard, Sambhar and Peafowl. The Savana habitat is also a popular attraction here. A tour of Devalia is cheaper, quicker and allows tourists to view the animals in their natural habitat.

Gir Jungle Trail 

Each safari at Gir (Gir Jugle Trail) would last for 3 hours covering a range of sections throughout the forest. Alongside a jeep and a guide, travellers could also take upfront pictures of the majestic Asiatic lions here. However, visitors would have to obtain permission from the Sinh Sadan Forest Lodge Office, which would be furthered by Gir Park itself.

Each safari slot requires at least 5 visitors. A typical safari would traverse through 300 lion species, 200 bird types, 30 different mammals and 24 kinds of reptiles.  

Cost
A single jeep safari would cost INR 5300 for six adults and a child. However, the same package would cost about INR 13800 for foreign visitors.

Restaurants and Local Food in Gir National Park 

Gir has a number of resorts and lodges that serve food across various cuisines. These ensure that you won't run out of options for food while on your trip through adventure and excitement. Since it's a part of Gujarat, you might find local and elaborate Gujarati cuisine being served here. Typically vegetarian, Gujarati Thali would consist of Roti, Dal or Kadhi, Rice and Vegetable Curries. Gujarat is a dry state, so you wouldn't find any alcohol here.

Best Time To Visit Gir National Park

December and March is the best time to visit Gir National Park is during the winter season. It is during this period that the weather in Gir is pleasant and cool. The protected area of Gir National Park closes every year from 16th June to 15th October. A safari in this national park during the winter season will be a delightful experience as each, and every nook and cranny is open to visit and explore. April and May although a bit hot are considered the best times for wildlife spotting and photography. 

How to Reach Gir National Park

The Gir National Park is easily accessible via roadways, railways and airways. The nearest airport to this national park is the Keshod Airport, at a distance of about 50 to 60 km.
The Sasan Gir railway station is the the closest railhead, just about a 10-minute walk away. 
There is also a bus station in Sasan Gir, which is conveniently located to the Gir National Park.

How to reach Gir National Park by flight

The nearest airport to Gir National Park is Keshod, which lies approx 85 km away from Gir. The second nearest airport is Rajkot at 140 km away which can be easily accessed by other airports of the country. From the airport, the best way to reach Gir is by hiring a private taxi. You can also find a bus from Keshod to Gir.

How to reach Gir National Park by road

Gir is well-connected with the roads with the nearby cities. Direct buses run from Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Dwarka, Rajkot, Surat etc to Junagadh from where you need to take a cab to Gir.

Sasan Gir has its own railway station, which is not well-connected with the main cities of the country. The best is to catch a train to Junagadh or Rajkot and take a taxi to Gir from the railway station.

How to reach Gir National Park by bus

There are plenty of buses plying from various major starting points to the Gir National Park, also known as Sasan Gir. Buses can be booked via RedBus or any other trusted booking platform. Some of the most convenient routes to reach the park are via Ahmedabad, Junagadh, Rajkot and Jetpur.

Places To Visit In Junagadh

1. Mohabbat Maqbara
Also known as Mausoleum of Bahaduddnbhai Hasainbhai, this place is a mausoleum and its unique architecture makes it one of the most important attractions of Junagarh.

2. Uperkot Fort
Over 2300 years old, with walls up to 20m high in some places, there used to be a 300 ft. deep moat inside the walls which reportedly used to be inhabited by crocodiles for the fort's protection.

3. Girnar Hills
Just 5 km from Junagadh town, Girnar Hills are a collection of hills, whose origins can be traced back to the Vedas. It has been considered to be a religious place even as long before in the Mohan-jo-daro period.

4. Adi-kadi Vav and Navghan Kuwo
These are two step wells inside the Uperkot Fort. Usually wells are dug into the ground through layers of soli, stones, etc. and the construction is like that done above the ground.

5. Gir National Park
Being the sole home for Asiatic lions, this place is of course famous for spotting lions. Official count said that there were 411 lions in 2010. 6. Edicts of Ashoka
A site with an inscription of fourteen Edicts of Emperor Ashoka is found on a large boulder on the way to mount Girnar. It is located within 2 km of Uperkot Fort and is a major tourist attraction.

7. Sarkheswar Beach
Sarkeshwar Beach is one good place to relax and enjoy. Sound of the waves here are very soothing and the shore is lined by tiny and beautiful sea shells.

8. Buddhist Caves
These aren't exactly caves but rooms carved out of stones and were used as monk's headquarters. The oldest, the Khapara Kodia caves belong to 3rd-4th century AD and are plainest of all cave groups.

9. Jain Temples
There is a group of Jain temples in Girnar and are all unique yet similar in architecture and style. The Neminath Temple, built from 1128 AD to 1159 AD, is one of the main attractions.

10. Sakkarbaug Zoological Gardens
Situated on the Junagadh Rajkot Highway, Sakkarbaug Zoological Gardens aka Junagadh Zoo aka Sakkarbaug Zoo is a massive zoological park in Junagadh popular for the purebred Asiatic lions. Besides a variety of birds and animals including wild boar, blue bull, antelope etc.; the park also has an in-house natural history museum and a veterinary hospital.

11. Darbar Hall Museum
The former residencial palace of the rulers of Junagadh was later converted into a magnificent Darbar Hall Museum exhibiting the splendid possessions of the 19th century Nawabs. The repository has several galleries exuding with opulence and grandeur, decked with palatial rooms, goods, weapons, palanquins, pictures, photographs and artefacts etc.

12. Madhavpur Beach
Lined with gorgeous coconut trees and boasting of an ethereal landscape, Madhavpur is a stunning beach in Madhavpur. The other side of the beach, across the road, has verdant green grass and vegetation which makes the area look even more pleasant.

13. Shri Swaminarayan Mandir
Located on Jawahar Road in Junagadh, Shri Swaminarayan Mandir is a revered Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Swaminarayan - a Hindu saint, yogi, ascetic and the founder of Swaminarayan Sampraday which is a Hindu religious sect. Lord Swaminarayan built the temple himself and idols of several deities were installed in the temple premises.

14. Dattatreya Temple
Located on the top of the Girnar Mountain in Junagadh in Gujarat, Dattatreya Temple is revered Hindu temple. It is dedicated to the holy trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva collectively known as Dattatreya or Datta.

15. Tulsi Shyam Springs
Located in the premises of Gir Forest National Park, Tulsi Shyam Springs is a group of three hot sulphur streams alongside a Lord Vishnu Temple. The first is warm, the second is slightly hot, and the third stream is boiling hot; it is believed to have curative powers. It is believed to a dip in the springs can cure one of the skin diseases.

16. Goddess Ambe Temple
Situated on the top of the Girnar Hill in Junagadh, Gujarat, Goddess Ambe Temple or Ambe Mata Temple is a revered Hindu temple and an important pilgrimage site for the Hindus. Dedicated to the Hindu Goddess Ambe Ma, the shrine is mostly visited by newly wed couples. The temple also provides a picturesque view of the town below.

17. Ahmedpur Mandvi Beach
Ahmedpur Mandvi Beach is a 6 kms long pristine coastline kissed by the sparkling waters of the Arabian Sea. Situated on the junction of Diu and Gujarat, the beach is dotted with windmills and boasts of soft white sands. The beach is ideal of swimming, water sports and dolphin spotting and is visited by a large number of tourists throughout the year.

18. Moti Baug
Situated inside the premises of Junagadh Agricultural University, Moti Baug is a botanical park. Established in memory of a pet dog by Nawab Muhammad Mahabat Khanji III, the park is popular for its rich greenery and colourful flora. Besides offering a refreshing space for walks and jogs, the park also sites a pond amid a line of banyan and other dense trees.

19. Jatashankar Mahadev Temple
Jatashankar Mahadev Temple is a Hindu temple situated on the rear side of Mountain Girnar in Junagadh, Gujarat. The temple is enshrined by God Shiva in the form of his shivalinga which is naturally bathed by a stream flowing along and its water falling on the idol itself. The place is also the origin of river Sonrekh and is covered in ethereal beauty.

21. Shri Damodar Haries Temple
At the base of Ashwatthama Hill in the Girnar Mountain range in Junagadh, Gujarat, there is a sacred Hindu temple called Shri Damodar Temple alongside a holy water pond called Damodar Kund. The temple is enshrined by Lord Krishna and is surrounded by natural beauty lush greenery. The premises also have a gaushala to tend to cows.

22. Damodar Kund Water Reserve
Damodar Kund Water Reserve is situated at the foothills of Mountain Girnar and is considered holy by the Hindus pertaining to certain myths and legends. The ghat at the lake is used to cremate dead bodies and the water is believed to have properties to dissolve bones. The lake also has a temple and many poojas are performed at the site.

23. Dataar Hills
Dataar Hills is a holy site in Junagadh, Gujarat, popular for housing the shrine of Jamiyal Shah Datar at the top of the mountain peak. The shrine is worshipped by Hindus and Muslims alike. The shrine also offers a spectacular panoramic view of the town below and is a famous tourist spot. Urs festival is celebrated with great pomp and show.

24. Willingdon Dam
Wellington Dam in built over the Kalwa river at the foothills of Mountain Girnar in Junagadh and is a beautiful tourist spot. The water from Wellington Dam is used for commercial and domestic places in Junagadh and adjoining villages. The dam is best visited during monsoon when the rains increase the water level and you can watch he enchanting waterfalls.

25. Jama Masjid
Located in Uparkot area of Junagadh in Gujarat, Jama Masjid is a trademark monument of the city. Built in yellow sandstone, the mosque boasts of a spacious courtyard covered in white marble and a huge ablution tank in the premises. The inner walls have intricate carvings and the central dome is carved in the shape of a lotus flower.

Best time to visit Junagadh

Winter season (October - March) is the best time for a visit to Junagadh. The months when Junagadh is ideal for a trip for the October - March. Monsoons are also nice for a visit to the same, although the heavy rainfall and frequent thunderstorms and landslides might ruin your plans. The summers, though, are the least advisable time for a visit, owing to the scorching heat.

Junagadh might not have any lavish or fine dining restaurants but it does have quiet some options for some lip-smacking street food and good quality Indian and local Gujarati cuisine. Day 1 

Ahmedabad – Sasan Gir (400Kms/8 Hours)

Arrival in Ahmedabad – a World Heritage City. Proceed towards Gir - the only abode of the Asiatic Lions in the world. The Gir National Park, sprawling over 1412 sq km of land, comprises deciduous forests interspersed with rocky terrains of evergreen trees, grasses, shrubs and herbs. It is one of the few places in the world, where wild lions can be seen in their natural habitat. Besides, it has a major concentration of leopards, sambar deer, spotted deers, nilgais, wild boars and Indian gazelles. Other mammals that thrive in Gir are striped hyena, jackal, rusty-spotted cat, langur, porcupine and black-naped hare. Chousingha, the world's only four-horned antelope, is also spotted here. The park has a large population of marsh crocodile as well.

Mahabbat Khan Maqbara: Mohabat Maqbara is historic place of attraction in Gujarat and is mainly known for its splendid domes, towering minarets and arches. The construction of this monument had begun in the year of 1878AD under the supervision of Mahabat Khanji which was completed by his descendant Bahadur Khanji in the year of 1892 AD. Every year tourists from India and around the world come here to see this outstanding specimen of architectural craftsmanship of nineteenth century India which forms the major center piece of attraction in the state. The architecture of this monument represents the perfect fusion of Indo-European-Islamic styles whose appeal is still intact before the visitors all over the world. Each and every corner of this monument bears the testimony of the aristocratic taste and lifestyles of the Junagadh rulers. This historic monument comprises of two complexes and its portals had been ornamented with silver which is worth to watch. This monument comprises of overall four minarets with intricately designed spiral staircases. Each minaret comprises of large doors of silver along with exquisite stone carvings. Therafter visit 
Damodar Kund: It is actually a revered bathing place in Gujarat where visitors around the world dip their bodies to refresh their mind and body. The chief source of attraction of this holy pond is the prevalence of calm and soothing atmosphere in the surrounding region. Close to this holy water body, is situated the temple of Damodarji and also the holy water body of Revati Kund. This holy water body is the spot where ashes and bones of the cremated dead bodies are immersed with a firm belief that the soul of the deceased shall attain moksha or free from the cycle of life and death. During festive seasons, local people of Junagadh come to this Kund for offering prayer for their loved ones. This Kund serves used to be the bathing spot Narsinh Mehta who was an ardent devotee of Krishna and also a famous poet of Gujarat during the period of 15th century. Near this lake stands a temple dedicated to Narsinh Mehta for commemorating his devotion and poetic works. Then visit 
Bhavnath Temple: Bhavnath Mahadev is a temple at the base of Girnar Hills, dedicated to Lord Shiva. This place is a gateway to reach the other temples on the Girnar. Pilgrims ascend to the peaks of Girnar Hills on foot from here. The other notable places around here are Damodar Kund, Mrugi Kund, Sudarshan Lake and the four peaks of Girnar Hills.‘Lili Parikrama’ - the five-day pilgrimage consisting of a 36 km trek on foot, encircling the Girnar Hills, also begins here every year. The ‘Lili Parikrama’ begins after hoisting a flag on the Bhavnath temple. Also, a five-day fair is organized on the occasion of ‘Maha Shivratri’ every year, in which sages and pilgrims from across India take part. Devotees believe that Lord Shiva himself comes to this fair, every year. The fair begins with procession of the ‘Naga Bawas’ riding the elephants and horses, chanting religious slogans and blowing the conch shells, displaying dance and martial arts. Girnar (Junagadh)

Today morning, after breakfast, visit Girnar hill: Girnar, also known as Girinagar ('city-on-the-hill') or Revatak Parvata, is a group of mountains in the Junagadh District of Gujarat, India. The Girnar mountain ranges are considered to be sacred. It is an important pilgrimage site for Hindus and Jains , who gather here during the Girnar Parikrama festival. Girnar is one of the six major 'tirthas' attributed to the 'panchkalyanakas' of various ' tirthankaras'. Mount. Girnar is older than the Himalayas and the Jain temples upon it are amongst the most ancient in the country; it is the Nirvan bhumi of 22nd Tirthankara Lord Neminatha. It is 3666 feet high, and is one of the most remarkable mountains in India. From the city of Junagadh, which is at an altitude of barely 351 feet only the top of Mount Girnar can be seen, as it has in front of it lower hills, of which Jogniya, or Laso Pawadi, 2527 feet; Lakhshman Tekri, Bensla, 2290 feet high; and Datar, 2779 feet high, are the principals. There are around 10,000 steps to reach the highest peak and takes around 4-5 hours for a normal individual to climb. Overnight at Junagadh.

Gir National Park 
"The land of Asiatic Lions"

Gir National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary is the only remaining home for the Asiatic Lions. Located in Talala Gir in Gujarat, the Sanctuary is a part of Kathiawar- Gir dry deciduous forests ecoregion. Gir National Park is closed from 16 June to 15 October every year and the best time for wildlife spotting is April and May.

Gir provides you with the unique experience of visiting a place which almost singularly plays a crucial and defining role in the preservation and sustaining of a certain species. The preservation of these lions was initiated by the Nawab of Junagadh when these were just about to enter the phase of extinction due to hunting.

The official count said that there were 411 lions in 2010. Also, there are roughly different 2375 species of fauna here with 38 species of mammals, over 300 species of birds, 37 species of reptiles and over 2000 species of insects. Other important wildlife forms found here are leopard, chausingha, spotted deer, hyena, sambar deer and chinkara.

Attractions in Gir National Park 

Apart from the famous Gir jungle trail at the national park, Gir has many other attractions to offer to tourists. The Kamleshwar dam, which is the largest dam in Gir, is one such attraction, and it is often referred to as the ‘lifeline of Gir’. It is built over the Hiran river. The beautiful Tulsi Shyam temple located within the national park is also a must-visit. The crocodile breeding farm, located near the Sasan Gir reserve, is also a popular tourist destination.

Water Reserve 

The Gir region has seven major rivers, and 4 reservoirs at 4 dams - one each on the Hiran, Machhundri, Raval and Shingoda rivers. The biggest reservoir is the Kamleshwar Dam, which is called as the lifeline of Gir. Droughts and water scarcity are a major challenge in the region, especially during peak summers.

Biodiversity of Gir 

The dry deciduous forests of Gir are believed to house over 500 species of flora, with teak trees being the most populous. Other prominent species include jamun, babul and the flame of the forest. Casuarinas and Prosopis were planted along the coastal borders of Gir for under the afforestation program. 

Gir is synonyms to the royal Asiatic lions that draws in the wildlife enthusiasts from all around the globe. The national park is the last abode of the endangered species of Asiatic lions that are the pride of India.

With the population of about 500 lions and 400 leopards in its premises, Gir is one of the biggest habitats of the wild cats and also a haven for the wildlife lovers. Apart from the leopards and lions, the national park also houses the various variety of species such as Deer, Sambhar, Cheetal, antelopes, blue bull, jackal, hyena and hare among the other species of fauna.

Devalia Safari Park 

The Devalia Safari Park is also known as the Gir Interpretation Zone and was established to reduce the excess of tourists at the Gir National Park. It is an eco-tourism zone, known as ‘Gir in a nutshell’, which houses all the wildlife and habitats of Gir within its boundaries.

Prominent species that can be spotted here include - Blue Bull, Asiatic Lion, Leopard, Sambhar and Peafowl. The Savana habitat is also a popular attraction here. A tour of Devalia is cheaper, quicker and allows tourists to view the animals in their natural habitat.

Gir Jungle Trail 

Each safari at Gir (Gir Jugle Trail) would last for 3 hours covering a range of sections throughout the forest. Alongside a jeep and a guide, travellers could also take upfront pictures of the majestic Asiatic lions here. However, visitors would have to obtain permission from the Sinh Sadan Forest Lodge Office, which would be furthered by Gir Park itself.

Each safari slot requires at least 5 visitors. A typical safari would traverse through 300 lion species, 200 bird types, 30 different mammals and 24 kinds of reptiles.

December and March is the best time to visit Gir National Park is during the winter season. It is during this period that the weather in Gir is pleasant and cool. The protected area of Gir National Park closes every year from 16th June to 15th October. April and May although a bit hot are considered the best times for wildlife spotting and photography.

The Sasan Gir railway station is the the closest railhead, just about a 10-minute walk away. 
There is also a bus station in Sasan Gir, which is conveniently located to the Gir National Park.

The nearest airport to Gir National Park is Keshod, which lies approx 85 km away from Gir. The second nearest airport is Rajkot at 140 km away which can be easily accessed by other airports of the country. From the airport, the best way to reach Gir is by hiring a private taxi. You can also find a bus from Keshod to Gir.

Places To Visit In Junagadh

1. Mohabbat Maqbara
Also known as Mausoleum of Bahaduddnbhai Hasainbhai, this place is a mausoleum and its unique architecture makes it one of the most important attractions of Junagarh.

2. Uperkot Fort
Over 2300 years old, with walls up to 20m high in some places, there used to be a 300 ft. deep moat inside the walls which reportedly used to be inhabited by crocodiles for the fort's protection.

3. Girnar Hills
Just 5 km from Junagadh town, Girnar Hills are a collection of hills, whose origins can be traced back to the Vedas. It has been considered to be a religious place even as long before in the Mohan-jo-daro period.

4. Adi-kadi Vav and Navghan Kuwo
These are two step wells inside the Uperkot Fort. Usually wells are dug into the ground through layers of soli, stones, etc. and the construction is like that done above the ground.

5. Gir National Park
Being the sole home for Asiatic lions, this place is of course famous for spotting lions. Official count said that there were 411 lions in 2010. 6. Edicts of Ashoka
A site with an inscription of fourteen Edicts of Emperor Ashoka is found on a large boulder on the way to mount Girnar. It is located within 2 km of Uperkot Fort and is a major tourist attraction.

7. Sarkheswar Beach
Sarkeshwar Beach is one good place to relax and enjoy. Sound of the waves here are very soothing and the shore is lined by tiny and beautiful sea shells.

8. Buddhist Caves
These aren't exactly caves but rooms carved out of stones and were used as monk's headquarters. The oldest, the Khapara Kodia caves belong to 3rd-4th century AD and are plainest of all cave groups.

9. Jain Temples
There is a group of Jain temples in Girnar and are all unique yet similar in architecture and style. The Neminath Temple, built from 1128 AD to 1159 AD, is one of the main attractions.

10. Sakkarbaug Zoological Gardens
Situated on the Junagadh Rajkot Highway, Sakkarbaug Zoological Gardens aka Junagadh Zoo aka Sakkarbaug Zoo is a massive zoological park in Junagadh popular for the purebred Asiatic lions. Besides a variety of birds and animals including wild boar, blue bull, antelope etc.; the park also has an in-house natural history museum and a veterinary hospital.

11. Darbar Hall Museum
The former residencial palace of the rulers of Junagadh was later converted into a magnificent Darbar Hall Museum exhibiting the splendid possessions of the 19th century Nawabs. The repository has several galleries exuding with opulence and grandeur, decked with palatial rooms, goods, weapons, palanquins, pictures, photographs and artefacts etc.

12. Madhavpur Beach
Lined with gorgeous coconut trees and boasting of an ethereal landscape, Madhavpur is a stunning beach in Madhavpur. The other side of the beach, across the road, has verdant green grass and vegetation which makes the area look even more pleasant.

13. Shri Swaminarayan Mandir
Located on Jawahar Road in Junagadh, Shri Swaminarayan Mandir is a revered Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Swaminarayan - a Hindu saint, yogi, ascetic and the founder of Swaminarayan Sampraday which is a Hindu religious sect. Lord Swaminarayan built the temple himself and idols of several deities were installed in the temple premises.

14. Dattatreya Temple
Located on the top of the Girnar Mountain in Junagadh in Gujarat, Dattatreya Temple is revered Hindu temple. It is dedicated to the holy trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva collectively known as Dattatreya or Datta.

15. Tulsi Shyam Springs
Located in the premises of Gir Forest National Park, Tulsi Shyam Springs is a group of three hot sulphur streams alongside a Lord Vishnu Temple. The first is warm, the second is slightly hot, and the third stream is boiling hot; it is believed to have curative powers. It is believed to a dip in the springs can cure one of the skin diseases.

16. Goddess Ambe Temple
Situated on the top of the Girnar Hill in Junagadh, Gujarat, Goddess Ambe Temple or Ambe Mata Temple is a revered Hindu temple and an important pilgrimage site for the Hindus. Dedicated to the Hindu Goddess Ambe Ma, the shrine is mostly visited by newly wed couples. The temple also provides a picturesque view of the town below.

17. Ahmedpur Mandvi Beach
Ahmedpur Mandvi Beach is a 6 kms long pristine coastline kissed by the sparkling waters of the Arabian Sea. Situated on the junction of Diu and Gujarat, the beach is dotted with windmills and boasts of soft white sands. The beach is ideal of swimming, water sports and dolphin spotting and is visited by a large number of tourists throughout the year.

18. Moti Baug
Situated inside the premises of Junagadh Agricultural University, Moti Baug is a botanical park. Established in memory of a pet dog by Nawab Muhammad Mahabat Khanji III, the park is popular for its rich greenery and colourful flora. Besides offering a refreshing space for walks and jogs, the park also sites a pond amid a line of banyan and other dense trees.

19. Jatashankar Mahadev Temple
Jatashankar Mahadev Temple is a Hindu temple situated on the rear side of Mountain Girnar in Junagadh, Gujarat. The temple is enshrined by God Shiva in the form of his shivalinga which is naturally bathed by a stream flowing along and its water falling on the idol itself. The place is also the origin of river Sonrekh and is covered in ethereal beauty.

21. Shri Damodar Haries Temple
At the base of Ashwatthama Hill in the Girnar Mountain range in Junagadh, Gujarat, there is a sacred Hindu temple called Shri Damodar Temple alongside a holy water pond called Damodar Kund. The temple is enshrined by Lord Krishna and is surrounded by natural beauty lush greenery. The premises also have a gaushala to tend to cows.

22. Damodar Kund Water Reserve
Damodar Kund Water Reserve is situated at the foothills of Mountain Girnar and is considered holy by the Hindus pertaining to certain myths and legends. The ghat at the lake is used to cremate dead bodies and the water is believed to have properties to dissolve bones. The lake also has a temple and many poojas are performed at the site.

23. Dataar Hills
Dataar Hills is a holy site in Junagadh, Gujarat, popular for housing the shrine of Jamiyal Shah Datar at the top of the mountain peak. The shrine is worshipped by Hindus and Muslims alike. Wellington Dam in built over the Kalwa river at the foothills of Mountain Girnar in Junagadh and is a beautiful tourist spot. The water from Wellington Dam is used for commercial and domestic places in Junagadh and adjoining villages. The dam is best visited during monsoon when the rains increase the water level and you can watch he enchanting waterfalls.

25. Jama Masjid
Located in Uparkot area of Junagadh in Gujarat, Jama Masjid is a trademark monument of the city. Built in yellow sandstone, the mosque boasts of a spacious courtyard covered in white marble and a huge ablution tank in the premises. The inner walls have intricate carvings and the central dome is carved in the shape of a lotus flower.

Monsoons are also nice for a visit to the same, although the heavy rainfall and frequent thunderstorms and landslides might ruin your plans. The summers, though, are the least advisable time for a visit, owing to the scorching heat.

Food of Junagadh

Junagadh might not have any lavish or fine dining restaurants but it does have quiet some options for some lip-smacking street food and good quality Indian and local Gujarati cuisine. Do try out the popular Gol-Gappe, Dahi Vada, Aloo Puri as well as delicacies of Punjabi and Chinese cuisine. Some Gujarati snacks and sweets that you might find here are Dhokla, Khandvi, Thepala, Ghevar, Basundi and probably a few more.

How to Reach 

Junagadh is well connected by rail and road. Regular rail and bus services ply to and fro the fort city of Junagadh. There is no direct flight connectivity, however, to Junagadh. The nearest airport is in Rajkot, approximately 106.3 km away from Junagadh.
